It takes a rare talent to make it past fifteen years of fame, much less fifteen minutes! The things that make a child star are good genes, good work ethic, and good luck. You can’t just show up and grab an Oscar, you have to work or “werk,” as they say. These stars did it and some of them came out of the oven a little bit differently than others. We can only pray for Amanda Bynes and Shia Labeouf. Nobody saw that coming. I guess money really can’t buy you happiness, love, or sanity! Check out these child stars who grew up!
Look who’s not so short anymore! Jonathan Ke Quan was Data in “The Goonies” and Short Round in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Empire Online claims that his older brother was the one who meant to audition for the role, but casting producers chose him instead. He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and studied Taekwondo under Philip Tan. He was last seen attending the London Film Festival in 2012.
The world’s favorite child genius, T.J. Henderson, was played by Tahj Mowry on the show “Smart Guy.” He also had his turn as a Disney popstar by singing “Shine Your Light On Me” for a Disney project. Video game fans will be most envious of his role as a voice actor for young Sonic in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” cartoon. That is a credit that would surprise any hedgehog lover. Mowry is now on the show “Baby Daddy.”
Judy Winslow from “Family Matters” was played by Jaimee Foxworth. Foxworth had a baby with her boyfriend Michael Shaw in 2009. Before adulthood, she was in McDonald’s commercials, Barbie commercials, and a hit TV show back then. She caused a stir when people saw her perform in adult films under the name “Crave.” Oprah and Dr. Drew tried to intervene and consulted her on her drug problems and sordid past. It looks like her family matter became a famous matter.
No doubt she is working on the sequel to “Bionic.” Christina Aguilera was on “The Mickey Mouse Club” as a child and then went on to be a “Genie in a Bottle.” Mover over, Gwen Stefani and Shakira, because Aguilera wants her big red swivel chair back on “The Voice.” She took time off from pressing that big button to take care of her daughter Summer Rain Rutler but now she’s ready to work.
Amanda Bynes had her own show in 1999 called “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodoen and then starred in a bunch of teen movies. Remember that one where she was trying to disguise herself as a boy and hang out with Channing Tatum? Channing can’t help her now. Her parents have given up their conservatorship and moved away to give some attention to the other daughter. They still got a GPS on her, so make your moves wisely, Amanda.
Jeffrey Licon started working as a child before he was even a pre-teen, starring in TV movies like “The Burning Season” and shows like “Hearts Afire.” But his break came when he was the cooler, taller brother on “The Brothers Garcia.” It was supposedly the first English-language sitcom to have cast made up of all Latino actors. Jeffrey was last seen in the 2013 drama about deportation called “Foreign Land.”
Justin Timberlake was eleven years old in that viral video where he’s wearing a cowboy hat and singing on “Star Search.” He then said “Bye Bye Bye” to all of us and wore a denim suit with Britney Spears, brought “sexy” back, and co-founded a Priceless Surprises program with MasterCard. He is now with Jessica Biel and recently took part in a song called “Love Never Felt So Good” with Michael Jackson.
Tequan Richmond was the older brother named Drew Rock on “Everybody Hates Chris.” There was a scene where the main character commented on his older brother being so popular that ladies loved to do his laundry. He is currently on “General Hospital” as a character named T.J. Ashford. He likes grey sweatpants, suede 6’s, skeeball, and shirts that say “Certified Trill” according to his Instagram and Twitter.
Imani Hakim was born in 1993 and got the role as the little sister named Tonya Rock on “Everybody Hates Chris.” She studied acting at Karamu House Theater in Cleveland, Ohio and at The Young Actor’s Space in Burbank, CA. Hakim is now 21 years old and was the star of a Lifetime Original movie about the Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas. AV Club noted that Gabby Douglas performed the stunts in the movie!
“…Baby One More Time” came out fifteen years ago in 1999! You did it, Britney Spears! You survived fame. Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi and got a role on “The Mickey mouse Club” in 1992. Later, she recorded a demo of an unused Toni Braxton song and also sang “I Have Nothing” for executives to get signed by Jive Records. Britney is now doing her thing in Las Vegas for the “Piece of Me Show.”
Demi Lovato was not the only one who was a child star on “Barney and Friends.” Her friend Selena joined her as well. Selena Gomez put out a new album called “For You” which was her last record with Hollywood Records. This is her first greatest hits album and includes songs from when she was part of the group called “Selena Gomez & the Scene.” She signed a new contract with Interscope and is now labelmates with Lady Gaga.
Miley Cyrus was 11 when she auditioned for “Hannah Montana” but few people know that she was even younger than that when she did the movie “Big Fish.” You know you’ve made it when the first thing that pops up in Google search of your name says “Patrick Schwarzenegger stuffs money in twerking Miley Cyrus’ hot pants as they drop $10K at Miami strip club…” You can’t make this stuff up. Right under that headline was a Fox News headline that said, “Miley Cyrus spotted making out with Paris Hilton.”
Oprah said the famous words, “Oh girl, don’t set up the Twitter on fire” after Rayven-Symone Christina Pearman said “I’m not an African-American; I’m an American.” The actress, who was ranked one of VH1’s “Greatest Kid Stars Of All Time,” was three years old when she got her break as the step-granddaughter named Olivia on “The Cosby Show.” She had previously auditioned to be in the Bill Cosby movie “Ghost Dad” but was considered too young for that.
Haley Joel Osment was four when he got his first Pizza Hut commercial role after some crazy person took his picture at an Ikea. Who does that? Maybe this is the secret to success. Everybody put on your Sunday best and make sure your hair is right before you step foot into an Ikea. Those Swedish meatballs in the cafe at Ikea will be your last since you won’t be allowed to eat now that you’re a star. Osment will be in a movie next year with Johnny Depp called “Yoga Hosers.”
Tyler Posey was little Ty Ventura, the kid who had a speech to make, in “Maid in Manhattan.” Now he’s taking off his shirt, posting videos of himself singing, and twerking with Jennifer Lopez at the Teen Choice Awards. Apparently he has a clothing line called Posey’s Paradise that he advertises on his Instagram and he draws pictures of homeless people, hot dogs, and the alien duck from South Park.
Drew Barrymore was 11 months old when she starred in a dog commercial and was the most famous child star when her movie “E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial” came out. She went to rehab when she was a teenager and sobered up with the singer David Crosby. It looks like she found good people to be with! She went on to win a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a mini-series for “Grey Gardens.”
Hayden Panettiere was very likable in the movie “Shanghai Kiss” where she says hilarious things about somebody named Sugar Sally. Just like Barrymore, Hayden starred in commercials when she was 11 months old. In 1994, she started doing soap operas like “One Life To Live” and “Guiding Light.” The light then guided her to the role of a cheerleader named Claire Bennet on NBC’s “Heroes” alongside her former lover Milo Ventimiglia.
Macaulay Culkin is 34 years old now, for all of you “Home Alone” fans. Culkin was raised Roman Catholic, studied ballet at the School of American Ballet and was ten years old when “Home Alone” came out. In 2013, he started a New York-based, pizza-themed, comedic, Velvet Underground cover band called The Pizza Underground. People threw pints of beer at him after he did a kazoo solo in May 2014.
The scandal of “Home Improvement” wasn’t the secret behind why they never showed Wilson’s face. It was the point when Jonathan Taylor Thomas left the show when he was becoming the talk of the town. Thomas started the show when he was 8 years old and he had other plans. “I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break,” he told People. This smartypants graduated from Columbia University’s School of General Studies.
Getting dunked in the “splat vat” on Slimetime does not sound fun. But Vaneza Pitynski probably was compelled to do it for her career in that 2009 youtube video of her getting slimy. She was born in 1988 and starred as the little sister Lorena Garcia on Nickelodeon’s “The Brothers Garcia.” She got her theater degree from the University of Southern California in 2010 and is works for Interscope if her Twitter is to be believed.
There was a story about a lovely lady who was bringing up three lovely girls and they conjoined their house with some other dudes to become the juggernaut family known as “The Brady Bunch” in 1969. Susan Olsen was seven years old when she was cast as the youngest child Cindy Brady. Olsen revealed to Huffington Post that she only got paid for the first ten re-runs of the show. Ouch!
Dr. Oz: “I’m Very Concerned About the Corona Virus, Here’s Why”
While coronaviruses have been known to medical science since the 1960s, few have been anywhere near as dangerous as this new one from the market in Wuhan China.
A coronavirus is typified by its protective shell which resembles a crown or a halo under a microscope. That is where it gets its name. The average coronavirus does little more than cause the symptoms of the common cold, sniffles, cough, flu-like symptoms and so on. Part of the reason that these viruses are so hard to prevent from causing millions of colds each year is their protective shell. They can remain on a surface for hours, sometimes days, before they begin to lose structural integrity. But few trigger symptoms as severe as this one known as 2019-nCoV.
Dr. Oz had this to say about what has become known as the Wuhan Coronavirus, “It’s alarming, this is the big news today, the Chinese leadership is starting to say ‘this incubation period is a lot longer than we thought.’”
If this report is true, it means that many, many more people may be infected than have been reported- or even anticipated. It means that people could be walking around, infected, and not even know it- not taking precautions and spreading the virus everywhere they go. That means anyone who has recently returned from the area around the Wuhan market, where the outbreak started, could be carrying the disease.
At the time of this writing, the total enumerated infection count is over 1,800. The total deaths are approaching 200. Other researchers are suggesting that this virus has a rapid mutation rate. That is particularly terrifying because it is what made the HIV-AIDS virus so difficult to treat.
At present, the World Health Organization had laid down a series of suggestions to help people avoid infection.
They advise that anyone who may come into contact with the virus should:
- Wash their hands frequently
- Maintain good sanitation on and around all frequently used objects and surfaces
- Avoid centers of mass travel such as airports
- Sneeze and cough into the elbow or a tissue
- Take immunity-boosting supplements like vitamin C
The source of the infection is believed to have come from a specific market in Wuhan, where live animals were kept in stalls for sale and trade. Researchers believe the virus came from either a snake or a bat. The initial cases of illness were reported in December 2019 by employees of the Wuhan market. That market is now shut down for the foreseeable future.
As health officials struggle to understand the virus and contain its progress, other researchers are asking even more startling questions. The shell of this virus is similar to the shell of a virus created in a university research lab in 2015 at the University of North Carolina. What’s more, there is a known military biological weapons lab in Wuhan China.
If these reports are true, it could have serious implications, not only for global health- but for relations between the US and China.
Big Brother Contestants Make How Much on the Show?!?
Big Brother has been a wildly popular, dramatic reality TV game show since 2000. Audiences are captivated by the twists, the turns, the strange alliances, and the betrayals. The show is based on a Dutch program with the same premise which also became wildly popular in Spain and Germany before the reboot came to America.
As the US version grew in popularity, the producers eventually made it possible for fans to watch the contestants on a non-live streaming video feed available 24 hours a day seven days a week. Yes, the contestants on Big Brother are now on display to be viewed by anyone in the world at every waking moment. How they avoid getting caught in their all-togethers or during toilet breaks, we don’t know. Maybe they have certain camera-safe areas to which they can retreat.
Later on, the house the Big Brother contestants live in was stripped of all communication devices- depriving them of contact with the outside world. That is- except for the live feeds the public has unfettered access to. So, if one of them was being held hostage, we suppose they could let us know.
So the question came up of, how much do the contestants really earn? By playing the game they have the chance to make friends, or enemies, become Internet sensations, and to win half a million dollars. But, given everything they have to put up with; being ripped out of their lives, possibly losing jobs, experiencing the anguish of betrayal- all while being on public display- do they get anything else?
According to a report by Reality Blurred, a site that follows the happenings of reality TV stars, programs, and related matters- the contestants “[…] receive $750 per week that they’re in the house.”
Any pay they receive while in the jury house is harder to account for since nothing about it appears on the contract. However, it is believed that contestants receive consolation prizes during their time out of the main house. It also seems reasonable that the consolation prizes received in the jury house should be worth at least $500 since keeping them away from other gainful employment for less than that would be near to slavery. (We’re looking at you, jury duty.)
However, while the big prize on Big Brother is a cool half-million on top of what the contestants earn as their weekly salary, in reality- they have much more to gain in Internet stardom.
Many former Big Brother players have gone on to lucrative careers as influencers on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other social media sites. While any gains from that are unlikely to be as exhilarating as half a million in fast cash- the best of them certainly earn more than that over the long term.
So, it would appear that our curiosity MacGuffins on Big Brother are at least doing as well as someone earning minimum wage- while essentially fooling around Truman Show style.
Single Mom Irina Shayk, Happy Single
Those in the public spotlight seem to be an open book. Their every move seems to is covered by gossip sites. Their whereabouts are nearly always and it seems as if we are updated on who’s dating who and what luxurious vacation they are on.
That’s why it is surprising that Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper kept their relationship under wraps for so long, dating all the way back to 2015. The couple was first spotted together after the actor and model were first seen in 2015. Cooper split from Suki Waterhouse and Shayk ended her five-year relationship with soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo.
The couple was first seen together at a Broadway show, then shortly thereafter, the White House Correspondents’ dinner. Things seemed to move quickly from there. Within months the couple moved in together, soon they announced they were expecting.
Work Gets in the Way:
Irina, who has been quiet about her relationship and breakup with Bradley Cooper, recently spoke up about their relationship.
The couple ended their relationship in 2019, on the heels of the release of the stars’ remake of a Star is Born. The on-screen chemistry between Bradley Cooper and his co-star, Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, sent tongues wagging. Rumors were raging that the two co-stars were in a relationship based on their pationate adaption of the film.
Irina set the record straight in some recent interviews about the end of their relationship. According to Shayk, the couple hadn’t been getting along for quite some time. After the baby was born, Shayk was hoping that Cooper would put their family first and slow down his busy working schedule. She was secretly hoping that after A Star is Born was released and the promotional tour was over, he would spend more time at home. That was not the case.
Irina, 33, was ready to settle into family life. This included getting married and more children. But the marriage never happened, and Cooper’s work schedule was as busy as ever.
Irina felt that her expectations weren’t met and she didn’t have the commitment level she wanted from Cooper. Shortly after the Award season in June 2019, the news broke that the couple had split. Irina had taken baby Lea and moved out of the couples Los Angeles home.At first, the separation was thought to be temporary. Both partners have decided that they are better apart than together.
The couple continues to co-parent their daughter, but it seems like the couple are happty being apart. They both seem to be quite content focusing on their child and carreers.
Irina recently said that “life without Cooper” and being a single mom is “new ground.” She also said that just because two people are great on their own, they are not always good together.
Irina is a strong woman, and while she often feels overwhelmed being a single-mom, she’s ready for the challenge. Both parents are dedicated to doing what is best for their child and are curently working on a visitation schedule.
